Young Audiences Week Celebrated with Free Public Programming and the Taste of the Arts

Arts for Learning WNY (formerly Young Audiences of Western New York) is pleased to announce the second annual Taste of the Arts, an evening of art, food, drinks and community! This celebration coincides with National Young Audiences Week, a two-week celebration designated by Congress to highlight the diverse strengths and collective impact of the arts and arts education.

During spring break week, beginning April 3rd through April 8th, 2023 Arts for Learning WNY will host free daily programming at the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library in the Ring of Knowledge. The schedule of events is as follows:

  • Monday, April 3rd, 1-2 PM: Cynthia Vogel, Flow Science

  • Tuesday, April 4th, 1-2 PM: Gaitrie Subryan, Bollywood Dance for All

  • Wednesday, April 5th, 1-2 PM: Cindy Hanna, Interactive Dance Party

  • Thursday, April 6th, 1-2 PM: Rob Cadle, Cartoons by Cadle

  • Saturday, April 8th, 1-2 PM: The Hill Brothers, The Reading Show Performance

The celebration of arts education continues on April 13th from 5:30-8:30 PM in The Atrium of 500 Seneca with the Taste of the Arts. This evening brings together art, food, drink and community!

Taste of the Arts will feature several art stations, where guests can participate in a variety of art activities, led by Arts for Learning WNY Teaching Artists. Art stations will include:

  • Upcycled magnets with Cass Argeros: Did you know opaque glass is non-recyclable? Join us as we upcycle glass and turn them into beautiful magnets.

  • Balloon Art with Janice Spagnola: Learn from award-winning balloon artist Janice Spagnola who will be on hand providing guests an opportunity to make their very own "doggie balloon" creation to take home or to add to a display being built throughout the evening!

  • Book Arts with Laura Chenault: Stop by and make a single signature pamphlet notebook with interdisciplinary artist Laura Chenault.

  • Community Mural with Kristin Brandt: Roll up your sleeves and get painting! Teaching Artist Kristin Brandt will guide attendees as together we create a masterpiece!

  • Gel Printing Cards with Emma Brittain: Emma will be leading an exciting gel printing activity. Gel printing is a monoprinting method using a squishy printing plate with acrylic paints and stencils. There are basically no bad results and endless possibilities with this exploratory method. Each participant will be able to make their own frame-worthy 5x7 greeting card.

Other activities at Taste of the Arts include entertainment by DJ Lisa Lux, a door prize of a $350 gift certificate to Chestnut Hill Farms, an interactive game of bingo, a gift card pull, and a photo booth! Guests can also win a variety of great prizes included in our themed raffle baskets: Game Night, Friends Night Out, Artisan's Delight, Spring into Summer, and Party Cooler!

Tickets will also include food and drink! Enjoy delicious BBQ by Fat Bob’s Smokehouse, mac & cheese from Park Vue Soul Food, vegan dip from Sunshine Vegan Eats, food from Braymiller Market and dessert from Nikki's Chocolates WNY. Sip and sample different beers and wine from Rusty Nickel.

This fundraising event is critical to ensure the mission of Arts for Learning WNY is fulfilled every day. Proceeds will directly contribute towards the professional roster of teaching artists who will develop and deliver creative learning opportunities to more than 30,000 youth and families in all 8 counties of WNY. Over 85% of our programming is offered free to the community because of fundraising events like Taste of the Arts.

Tickets are $50 to this 21+ event and include all materials to participate in the art activities, food, drink, and, of course, support of this beloved arts education organization for the next 60 years!

Taste of the Arts is presented by M&T Bank. This fundraising event is also made possible by Mr. & Mrs. Glenn and Kathy Arthurs, Rich Products, and the countless local businesses and artists in WNY who donated items and services to be included in the various activities that will be presented.
