Ancient Movement

Peaceful stances and breathwork create artful movement in this class. We will explore the animals of Kung Fu and the stances of Shaolin.  Dao means to guide qi, the body’s energy, to create balance, and yin means to stretch for strength and flexibility. In this program, Kristin will intertwine these teachings into all-encompassing movement sessions.

Kristin is certified to teach Dao Yin Lung Shen Levels 1 and 2, and received Qi Gong certification from Sifu Chik Qdar Mason of the Spiritwind Internal Arts Group.

The Art of Graphite Drawing

Explore the art of graphite pencil drawing. We will explore and learn how to use the different
grades of pencils, blending and shading tools. Each student will create a unique piece of art to take home.

Bookbinding

Bookbinding

Workshop participants will learn how to make a variety of books starting with simple pamphlet
bound books or single sheet books and moving on through more traditional hard cover
structures or less traditional artist books.Workshops with younger participants are geared towards collaboration and creating individual finished pieces, while older participants are encouraged to create more polished work and complex structures.

Maybe writing a college essay can be…fun? Meant for college essay writers facing the blank page, we’ll take you on a variety of brainstorming adventures to help you pick a topic that surprises the admissions committee and, better yet, inspires you! Then we’ll help you start outlining and drafting a college essay that you might even…enjoy?...writing!

Cyanotypes

Cyanotypes

Practice one of the oldest photographic printing proccesses! Cyanotype is known for its distinctive blue prints, created by layering objects on UV-sensitive paper and exposing in sunlight. This process is best done outdoors.

3D Boxes

3D Boxes

Make a three dimensional box while learning about optical illusion patterns. Students will
explore how to trick the eye by using step by step instructions to create optical illusions. Each side of their 3d box will have a different illusion on it.

Fashion Design

Explore the world of fashion design through a variety of projects - create vision boards, learn how to draw croquis, practice pattern making and basic sewing techniques. Length and complexity of projects  will vary based on grade level, number of sessions, and time allotted.

Film Making

Film Making

This multi-session residency is an excellent way to engage workshop participants in the basics of filmmaking. Traditional narrative filmmaking is excellent for group work, turning short stories into movies. Documentary-style films can be an engaging way for participants to reflect on reading materials or current events. Short-form content is great for all creators to learn how to get their message across in a succinct way.

Galaxy Paint Night

Students will learn and put into practice several types of painting techniques such as brush, sponge, and splatter. Step by step, they will create a galaxy painting while learning about color mixing and blending to get the desired "milky way" effect in their finished piece.

Gel Printing

Gel Printing

Gel printing is a printing method using a squishy gel printing plate with acrylic paints and stencils. Create a unique collage on paper, or any flat surface. There are basically no bad results and endless possibilities with this exploratory method.

Participants will learn how to harness the power of any camera! Workshops can cover shooting basics, including standard camera settings, framing photographs, and lighting. Great single workshops include creating cyanotypes, photo hikes with instant cameras, or lighting demos. Multi-session residencies can include portfolio building, sequencing photographs, or digital editing.

Reduce, Reuse, Reimagine

Reduce, Reuse, Reimagine

Students will gain a greater understanding of their role in the environmental health of our planet. Using recycled materials, they will have a hands-on mixed-media experience and leave with a completed project.
The specific project will vary depending on the age and focus of the group.

Terrariums, Wheat Paste Tiles, Recycled Glass Magnets, Intention Jars, Bird Feeders, and Instruments

World Drumming

Music and drumming accompanies every facet of village life in West Africa, encapsulating the necessities, challenges, and joys of human cooperation. With teaching artist Ringo Brill, students will explore these as they gain skills and confidence through rhythm, cooperation, and teamwork. Students will learn traditional rhythms and playing techniques on authentic instruments. Ringo Brill brings over thirty years of experience teaching music and has worked and trained with master drummers in Cuba, Brazil, and West Africa.

Zentangled

Zentangled

Discover the relaxing, no-mistakes art of Zentangle. A Zentangle is an abstract ink drawing created using repetitive patterns. Zentangle has multiple benefits, including calming an anxious mind, increasing self-confidence, and cultivating moment-to-moment awareness in a similar way to mindfulness meditation.  Participants will learn and practice different patterns used to create a unique piece of art.

Zine Making

Zine Making

Participants will learn to create a variety of easy bookbinding structures to turn their own creative endeavors into zines that are easy to make multiples of for sharing both in person and online. The students will know how to create an 8-page zine from a single piece of paper, how to use basic bookbinding tools, and how to organize information in the book format.
