ArtWorks is where creativity, leadership, and opportunity meet

Arts for Learning WNY’s signature program, ArtWorks, is a multi-disciplinary, arts-based job-training program for Teen Apprentices ages 14-18. The program will run from October 19, 2026 to May 12, 2027 with sessions occurring weekly on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 4:00pm - 6:00pm. Breaks and days off typically coincide with the local academic calendar.
Open interviews for the 2026-2027 school year will be held on Wednesday, June 10th and Tuesday, June 16th (4:00pm - 6:00pm) at our office in the Tri-Main Center, Suite 443. Interested applicants should bring a completed application—including a letter of a recommendation from a teacher, principal, coach, or guidance counselor and their most recent report card—to one of the open interview sessions.
Over the course of the school year, a cohort of apprentices will engage in arts workshops and projects led by a Teaching Artist, as well as professional development days designed to build workforce readiness skills. Each semester will consist of a variety of professional development opportunities, artistic workshops, guest speakers, and off-site trips to various Buffalo-based arts and cultural institutions or post-secondary institutions.

ArtWorks is a one-of-a-kind opportunity in which teens are paid to learn, create art, and develop important skills in a real-world environment. Apprentices engage in deep exploration of artistic disciplines under the guidance of professional Teaching Artists with years of experience. The benefits of ArtWorks extend far beyond artistry, though. Apprentices are exposed to a vast array of professional opportunities as they develop a diverse skillset that prepares them to succeed in any path they choose to pursue after high school.
Applicants are encouraged to contact the Arts for Learning office before open interviews with any questions. Visit the ArtWorks page on our website to learn more about the program and how to apply. We hope to hear from you soon!
Hired to Create. Inspired to Succeed.
