Last weekend, Arts for Learning WNY’s Board of Directors and key staff gathered for our annual retreat. This was more than just a routine meeting; it was a critical day filled with reflection, strategy, and collaboration. By prioritizing governance, finance, and strategic planning, we sparked thoughtful conversations about how we can strengthen the organization’s future.

Guided By Our Mission
Guided by our mission to inspire young people through the arts, the retreat offered an opportunity to reconnect, share ideas, and reaffirm our collective commitment to growth and impact across Western New York.
Our annual board retreat is always such a meaningful opportunity to come together and look ahead to what’s next for Arts for Learning, said Leanne Deshaies, Board President. We’re feeling inspired by the ideas taking shape and the possibilities our new home in the Tri-Main Center will bring.
Amelia Schrader, Executive Director, reflected that the discussions were both energizing and affirming: “As we refine our strategic plan, we remain grounded in our belief that the arts have the power to transform learning and expand what’s possible for students across Western New York.”
Innovation Through Collaboration
The retreat created a vibrant environment for creative discussions. Board Member Mike Thomas highlighted the value of this format: “The opportunity to have free-flowing, creative discussions and exchange ideas without being constrained by routine board functions was invaluable. The stability of the organization has allowed us to sharpen our focus on the future and how we can best serve the community.”
This collaborative setup allowed us to hone our focus and explore innovative ways to serve our community. Stability has granted us the freedom to think outside the box and envision fresh possibilities.
During these discussions, we reaffirmed our commitment to arts-integrated education. Board Member Amy Wlosinski emphasized the importance of this approach: “Students not only learn core academic subjects but do so in ways that create lasting memories. That’s what sets Arts for Learning WNY apart.” Our goal is to provide meaningful experiences that inspire and engage young minds through the transformative power of the arts.

Looking Ahead
The insights gained during the retreat will be instrumental in shaping our next strategic plan. As we refine our goals and strategies, we remain grounded in our mission and focused on the impact we aspire to make across Western New York.
Our discussions highlighted the power of collaboration and the value of diverse perspectives. Each Board Member brings unique experiences and vision, helping us approach challenges with creativity and seize new opportunities for growth.
We are deeply grateful to our dedicated Board Members for their time, wisdom, and leadership. Their continued support ensures that Arts for Learning WNY can keep bringing meaningful, arts-integrated experiences to students and families throughout our shared communities for years to come.
