In late May of 2023 we celebrated our incredible ArtWorks apprentices at the ArtWorks Spring Showcase at the Burchfield Penny Art Center. This was an opportunity for apprentices to reflect on what they've learned throughout the program, talk about their aspirations, and show off their creative pottery culminating in a stunning performance of monologues!
Twenty apprentices, from the Buffalo Public School system, participated in the ArtWorks Spring '23 session. Under the expert tutelage of two Teaching Artists, Emma Brittain and Lissette DeJesus, apprentices learned about ceramics and theatre, respectively. In addition to their time with the artists, apprentices participated in a professional development speaker series where they learned about financial literacy, mindfulness, creative writing and more.
Eight of the 20 apprentices also worked as interns with the following organizations: Houndstooth Costume Collective, Locust Street Art, VR Buffalo and 2nd Generation theatre; further deepening their experience into the arts. As public speaking is a main requirement of the ArtWorks program, all apprentices presented and spoke about their creative processes during the final showcase.

Congratulations to all of our apprentices, Teaching Artists, professional development guests, and team for another great semester!
