About the event
In 2004, former E.D. Helga MacKinnon initiated the museum with her personal collection of objects that represent the laborers and developers of the Erie Canal. Always expanding, the traveling museum allows
students to examine and interact with real artifacts as they learn stories about canal life, and use their skills of observation to make smart inferences about what the world was like in the 1820's and 30's and what impact the Canal had on the people who lived and worked nearby.
